A RARE RHINOCEROS HORN BOWL
XUANDE INCISED SIX-CHARACTER MARK, MING DYNASTY
The deep, slightly flaring sides rising from a cylindrical foot incised with a continuous band of knobbed scroll, carved in shallow relief on the exterior with a wide band of composite floral scroll bordered by lappets at the base and demi-cell pattern just below the rim, the interior plain, the base incised with double-encircled Xuande six-character mark, the horn of even reddish-brown tone, cracks stabilized, minor restored rim chips--4¼in. (10.8cm.) diam.
