EARLY WESTERN ZHOU DYNASTY/3RD CENTURY B.C.
Comprising one large and two smaller taotie masks, the smallest highly stylized, all with loops on the back for attachment; two Ordos plaques of tigers with long claws, rope-like tail and open jaws showing the fangs, each with two small loops on the reverse; the last a cheek or harness fitting, well cast with a head in profile turned backwards over a central aperture to face an upcurved body cast with a tapering band of leiwen, the long feather or crest projecting from the back of the head and curving forward to form a loop, with three small tubular loops on the concave back, dark green encrustation--2 1/8 to 4 3/8in. 5.4 to 11.1cm.) long (6)
