A GILT-BRONZE BELL AND BRONZE STAND
KANGXI
Of oval section, and open at the bottom, incised on the exterior with a trellis-pattern band interspersed with double trefoils, the sides surrounded by an applied open-work series of interlocked squared scrolls, hooks and arcs continuing to and meeting at the top to form a handle, the allover gilding well-preserved, a separate coppery bronze hook in the shape of a ruyi sceptre suspending the bell from the shaped toprail, the ornate, darkly patinated bronze stand formed by a pair of dragon-entwined posts arising from shaped bracket bases cast in relief on both sides with cloud medallions reserved on a wave-pattern ground, the bases joined by a pierced crosspiece and toprail cast on each side with a pair of dragons flanking a medallion representing the character san (three) and repeated on each side of the top of each post, the bell striking with a clear tone--18in. (45.5cm.) high overall
