Lot Essay

Compare a large wood figure of Guanyin in the Rietberg Museum, Zurich, illustrated by Siren, Chinese Sculpture in the von der Heydt Collection, Catalogue no. 62; and another standing figure of Guanyin from the Eumorfopoulos Collection now in the Victoria & Albert Museum, accession number 62-1937. A similar example is illustrated by Siren, Studien zur Chinesischen Plastik der Post-T'angzeit, Ostasiatis Zeitschift 1927-8, Berlin, 1928, pl. 6, no. 19.
