AN UNUSUAL SILK-EMBROIDERED SILVER-GROUND TWELVE-SYMBOL DRAGON ROBE

Worked on the front and back in 'forbidden stitch' and satin stitch with eight contorted five-clawed dragons confronting flaming pearls amidst cloud scrolls interspersed with bats, shou-character roundels, Buddhist emblems and the twelve imperial symbols, with dark purple sleeves and black cuffs, above a hem of dense wave pattern and the terrestrial diagram emblazoned with large pink peony and further Buddhist emblems, all picked out in shades of blue, pink, purple, silver, yellow and brown against an attractive bluish-gray ground--56½in.
