The cylindrical body made in imitation of a rolled, cord-tied scroll, with a descending dragon forming the handle and the contorted body of another chilong forming the spout, the flat, inset cover with pierced knop, all covered in an even milk-white glaze, small chip to dragon's foot--5 3/8 in. (13.7cm.) high

Compare the very similar ewer included in the exhibition, Chinese Gold, Silver and Porcelain: The Kempe Collection, Asia Society, New York, 1971 and illustrated by Gyllensvard in the Catalolgue, no. 137. Another was found in the cargo of a shipwreck in the South China Seas in which two pieces were dated by inscription to 1643, illustrated by Ayers, 'Blanc-de-Chine, Some Reflections', T.O.C.S. 1986-87, vol. 51, pl. 7 (bottom right), together with a ewer with a recumbent dragon knop in the Victoria and Albert Museum
