A PAIR OF WUCAI 'DRAGON AND PHOENIX' BOWLS
DAOGUANG SEAL MARK IN UNDERGLAZE BLUE AND OF THE PERIOD

Each painted on the exterior with a continuous scene of an iron-red and green dragon in mutual pursuit of flaming pearls, amidst leafy flower sprays divided by a pair of descending phoenix, all below a narrow band of babao alternating with ruyi-heads below the rim, the interior with a contorted dragon and flaming pearl roundel--6¼in. A pair of Daoguang-marked bowls of this pattern was included in the exhibition, The Wonders of the Potter's Palette, Qing Ceramics from the Collection of the Hong Kong Museum of Art, November 1984-January 1985, Catalogue no. 100; and another in The Chinese University of Hong Kong exhibition, Imperial Porcelain of Late Qing, Kwan Collection, August-September, 1983, p. 68, Catalogue no. 44.
