A FAMILLE ROSE FIGURE OF AN ELEPHANT
18TH CENTURY

Modeled in a recumbent, curled position, its head resting on its front legs, covered in an unusual opaque white glaze decorated with rose and blue trappings beneath a 'cracked-ice' pattern blanket edged with brown and gilt chevron, its skin represented by faint gray lines, its back and base pierced with a large central aperture, the base with five smaller apertures as well, later mounted as an inkwell, glaze flakes, tusk chipped--6¼in. (16cm.) long; together with an iron-brown-decorated figure of a recumbent Pekinese, 19th century, ears chipped--6¾in. (17.2cm.) long; and a small goose-form box and cover, 19th century, its white body resting on a green wave-form base, chip--3in. (7.6cm.) high (3)
