Of oval form, painted in shades of green, blue, mustard and manganese, moulded with The Baptism of Christ after ???, the sides moulded with rope-twist 'flutes', the underside spashed in blue and manganese (minor abraisions to surface and nicks to edge)--11 5/8in. (29.5cm.) wide

Lot Essay

Several examples of the present model based on ???'s engraving after ??? of the Baptism of Christ in 15?? are known. A virtually identical version was sold at Sotheby's London, October 17, 1988, lot 288. A similar example with a variant border was sold at Christie's London, June 28, 1993, lot 151. Cf. M.-J.
