AN EGYPTIAN LIMESTONE EYE STELA FRAGMENT
NEW KINGDOM, DYNASTY XVIII, 1550-1307 B.C.

In sunk relief, perhaps unfinished, with the owner facing right in the recessed field above, seated before a tray of offerings captioned "a thousand loaves of bread and jugs of beer, a thousand oxen and fowl, and a thousand alabaster vessels and bolts of cloth for" the deceased, with two protective eyes below, 14 3/16in. (36cm.) high
