Lot Essay

Commissioned by the Society of Sabertache, the monumental plaster example of L'Aigle expirant de Waterloo was exhibited at the Salon of 1902. The final model was realized two years after the artist's death and was placed on the intended site at the battlefield.

Another example of the same size as the present model is in the collection of the Musée de l'Armée, Paris.
