AN EMPIRE FANCY PAINTED AND DECORATED MAHOGANY SHELF CLOCK
BIRGE, TECK & COMPANY, BRISTOL, CONNECTICUT, 1830 - 1840

In three registers, the first featuring a pedimented crest with boss-decorated square plinths flanking a central spreadwing gilded eagle above a square cross-banded and glazed door enclosing a painted and decorated dialface with Roman chapter ring and pink and green painted flower spandrels flanked by gilded and grain painted pilasters over a cross-banded mid-molding above second panel of reverse painting on glass centering a wreath of yellow, red and green flowers and leaves and flanked by gilded outset columns over a third register of reverse painting on glass the door with central yellow, pink and blue flowered garland enclosed by a silver acanthus border surrounded by a cross-banded mahogany frame and flanked by gilded and grain painted pilasters, on a conforming base--34in. high, 16in. wide, 5in. deep
