The rectangular top with thumb-molded edge a conforming case above four graduated drawers over a molded base, on ogee bracket feet, appears to retain origial brasses--41in. high, 38in.wide, 22in. deep

Lot Essay

With its front stiles tenoned through the case top, its relatively small size and its large scrolled feet, this chest-of-drawers represents a regional adaptation of stylistic features found on high style Philadelphia Chippendale chests. A nearly identical chest-of-drawers, attributed to John Bear of Earl Township, Lancaster County Pennsylvania, is illustrated and discussed in Snyder Jr., Antiques, May 1984, p.1155, fig. 5.
