Lot Essay

This bookplate directly relates to another illustrated in Heaney and Weiser, plate 176, by the same hand and made presumably for either the sister or cousin of Veronica Borkolter. The bookplate illustrated bears a virtually identical inscription, [translation Heaney and Weiser] "Anna Borkolter got this Testament as a present from her grandmother, Magdalena Kreiter, as a souvenir of her. 1839."
