ATTRIBUTED TO SAMUEL BENZ, THE "MOUNT PLEASANT ARTIST," 1792-1850, LANCASTER COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA, CIRCA 1818
The rectangular decorated certificated centering an astragal-shaped reserve bearing the fraktur-schriften German inscription, [translation] "Henrich Weidman, son of Samuel Weidman and his wife Christina, born Appels, is born the 21st day of September 1817---[he] was baptized the 3rd day of March 1818 by William Baetis. His baptismal witnesses were Joseph Weidman and his wife Catherina." all surrounded by columns and aneres within a rectangular surround and decorated by red, green, yellow and gilt checkerboards, scrolling carnations, vines, flowers and spheres--9 3/4 x 7 3/4in.
