A WATERCOLOR, INK AND GILT DECORATED GEBURTS UND TAUFSCHEIN
ATTRIBUTED TO SAMUEL BENTZ, THE "MOUNT PLEASANT ARTIST," 1792 - 1850, LANCASTER COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA, CIRCA 1824
The rectangular blue surround enclosing a blue, yellow and red starburst arch with striped supporting columns centering a red and blue floral and foliate burst above the fraktur-schriften German text [translation], "Jacob Appel, son of Samuel Appel and his wife Anna, born Kurtz, is born the 2nd September 1822, baptized the 22nd May 1824 by Pastor Wm. B. Hiester. The baptismal witnesses were Johannes Scherb and his wife Susanna" above starburst and solid spheres flanking a chevron surrounded urn--9¾ x 7¾ in.
