Document signed ("John Hancock") as Governor of Massachusetts, countersigned by John Avery, Jr., Secretary, "In the House of Representatives," [Boston, Ma.], 19 June 1788. 1 page, folio, professionally matted with an engraved portrait, glazed in a fine giltwood frame. Fine condition.
TAXATION WITH REPRESENTATION IN WORCESTER.
A resolution enacted by the Massachusetts legislature. "Whereas it appears by the representation & estimate of the Justices...for the County of Worcester" that certain sums be raised "for the purpose of discharging the debts," it is resolved that Worcester be permitted to levy a tax "on the polls & estates both real & personal," which may be apportioned between "the several towns & districts...in the manner pointed out by the law of the Commonwealth." Marked "Approv'd" and boldly signed by Hancock at the bottom.
