THE PRESIDENT'S MEDICAL ADVICE, FOR ONE OF HIS SLAVES

President Jackson, having learned of a new medical treatment, hastens to convey it to the Hermitage, his home in Tennessee, with the idea that it might help one of his slaves there. "This evening late I was handed by Major Barry a statement by his son A.M. Barry of the treatment of him by Doctors Phisic & Harris for the hip joint disease. Believing as I do, that Dick's daughter Hanna has the same complaint & that the same treatment will restore her, I...inclose it to you [the statement by A.M. Barry not present] that you may submit it to Samuel & that he may examine the girl, & if he wishes a consultation he may call in Doctor Hogg. Mr. Armistead M. Barry is now quite well & I have no doubt but he will intirely [sic] outgrow the disease. I wrote you to day & expect you will receive this by the same mail...with my prayers for yours, Sarah's, and my sweet little Rachel's health & prosperity believe me your affectionate father..."
