An album comprised of approximately 85 gelatin silver prints. circa 1892-96. 6 with credit and/or title and number in the negative; 25 with credit, title and number in the margin, the majority titled in ink on the mount. Varying sizes from 3 5/8 x 2¼in. to 7¼ x 9 3/8in. and the reverse. From 1-5 prints per page mounted back-to-back. Oblong folio with gilt-ruled red morocco corners and spine.

Lot Essay

John Muir traveled to Alaska on the Queen in 1896, and was there photographed by La Roche, the half-tone reproduction of the portrait laid-in with the album. The images include: early settlements, forts, missions and churches, mills, steamer boats, harbor scenes, mountain ranges, glaciers, lakes, rivers and their basins, falls, geysers and springs, group portraits of members of expedition, Indian brass band, Indian merchants, totems.
