Lot Essay

Maria Josepha (Dresden 1803-1829 Aranjuez), fourth daughter of Prince Maximilian of Saxony married King Ferdinand VII of Spain and the Indies in 1819 as his third wife. Luis de la Cruz y Rios is known to have formed part of the reception committee accompanying Queen Maria Josepha from Germany to Spain (see M. Tomàs, La miniatura retrato en España, Spain, 1953, p. 71).
