both signed and dated 'Mosnier 1778' (the mother lower left, the daughter lower right)
both oval, 2 1/8 in. (55 mm.) high, two-colour gold mounts chased with stylized acanthus borders, set on cover and base of a gold-mounted dark composition bonbonnière, the gold flange of the base struck with the discharge mark of Jean-Baptiste Fouache, Paris, 1775-1781 (3 in. 76 mm. diam.)
Provenance
Jean-Albert-Joseph de Buisseret, Comte de Blarenghien, Knight of the French Royal Military Order of Saint-Louis (1729-1800), husband and father of the sitters.
Given by him to his son, Louis-Henri-Joseph de Buisseret-Steenberque-Thiennes, Comte de Blarenghien (1765-1845), son and brother of the sitters.
Thence by family descent to the present owner.

Lot Essay

The sitters are Marie-Josèphe-Charlotte de Steenberque (d. 8 October 1739) who married the Comte de Blarenghien on 17 December 1758, and their daughter Charlotte-Albertine-Josèphe-Maria de Buisseret (b. 1763) who married Henri-Pierre-Jacques, future Comte de Podenas, on 17 December 1783. She died on 5 December 1785.
A handwritten note inside the box reads 'cette boëte est pour mon fils louis henri josephe de Buisseret pour souvenir Buisseret de Blarenghien je donne a mon dit fils mon gros diamans roze pour bague a son usage.'
