Lot Essay

Arthur J. Hepworth, who painted under the name of Arthur Jackson, was a cousin of Barbara Hepworth and a pupil of Ben Nicholson from 1932 to 1936. He exhibited at nearly all the Constructive and Concrete art exhibitions of the thirties before taking up a career as an architect in 1939/40. He trained under Sir Leslie Martin at Hull, and qualified as an architect in 1947.
