Lot Essay

First Spanish translation (by Cipriano Vimercati) of this rare tract on thermometrical navigation which first appeared in English in Philadelphia, 1792. Jonathan Williams (1750-1815), merchant, soldier and scientist, was a grand nephew of Benjamin Franklin, with whom he had worked on some of his later experiments. He became the first superintendent of West Point.
