The combination of biomorphic and geometric shapes gives evidence of the influence of various Abstract-Créationist personalities on Seligmann's work during his first year in Paris. The elongated of neck-like form may be a precursor to the swan image in the artist's Leda compositions (please see lot 259); here the bird nestles an egg-like shape. During this time Seligmann became friendly with Jean Arp, whose influence became paramount by the end of the decade, directing Seligmann towards the Surrealist movement.
