A LARGE WELL-CARVED RHINOCEROS HORN LOTUS-LEAF LIBATION VESSEL
MING DYNASTY/17TH CENTURY

The large, veined leaf sensitively carved around the sides with further lotus leaves, blossoms, grasses and a crab, all borne on long stems curving up one end to flank the large, hollowed central stem which forms a spout, its slender channel connected to a hole in the center of the interior of the leaf, inscribed with the characters Ke ting cang (The Ke Family Collection) in a vertical line on the outside of the spout, of rich, dark honey color shading to dark brown, minor cracks and chips--6¾in. (17.1cm.) long
