Leo Laporte-Blairsy studied under the two well-known French Academicians Alexandre Falguiere and Marius Jean Antonin Mercie. At the beginning of his career, the works he exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Francais were heavily influenced by these artists.
However, by the turn of the century, the style and scale of his works had evolved and he was leading his contemporaries in the develpoment of Art Nouveau lighting using the newly marketed incandescent bulb with small scale bronze figures.
In Alastair Duncan's book, Art Nouveau and Art Deco Lighting, he mentions that there are at least seventeen different light fixtures by the artist--ranging from wall-brackets to night-lights and table lamps.
