An intriguing short letter, responding to an inquiry concerning his name:

"Dear Sir
You ask for my true
Christian name. It is Abraham.
Yours truly
A. Lincoln."

On May 18, on the third ballot, the Chicago Republican party convention nominated Lincoln for President. Lincoln's formal acceptance was penned on May 23, and in the course of the next week, he received, and answered, many letters from supporters.
