Taylor's presidential franks are uncommon, doubtless due to the brevity of his Presidential term: the Stern collection had only a single example, although the Grunin collection boasted four. This envelope, although undated, was apparently franked a few days after Taylor's inauguration on 4 March 1849, and is likely to be among the earliest of Taylor's surviving franks as President.
