The Hôtel de la Monnaie was built by the architect Jacques-Denis Antoine (1733-1801) from 1771 to 1774. In 1768 the Abbé Terray, then minister of finances, decided to move the Mint near the Louvre, by the Pont Neuf, to an area on the Quai Conti on the other side of the river, which was bought from the City of Paris. The construction started on 30 April 1771. The building is 117 meters long with no pavillion on either end, eleven windows and a door which was designed by Dupré. On the top of the building eight sculptures Justice, Peace, Force and Commerce by Félix Lecomte, Prudence by Pigalle and Abundance by Mouchy.
