Lot Essay

Dr. Christiane Andersson first attributed this drawing to the Master of Coburg Roundels. A large number of drawings by this hand are known, both original compositions and copies after other masters. Many of his drawings include detailed studies of draperies which have led to him also being called 'The Master of the Drapery Studies'. The artist worked in Strasburg as a painter and a stained glass designer, and as the Mystic Winepress was a popular subject for glass, it is possible that the present drawing is related to his activity in this field
