AN IMPORTANT STAINED GLASS WINDOW PANEL
FLEMISH, 16TH CENTURY
Comprising twelve panels painted in yellow and sepia grisaille and depicting the Temptation of St. Anthony, with the Saint surrounded by demons, tempted by volumptuous women and attacked by ferocious beasts, surmounted by three lunettes painted with angels holding scrolls imploring St. Anthony, the three lower panels apparently of a later date (cracks, losses, distress, old repairs)-the largest panel: 30in. x 26½in. (76cm. x 67cm.), overall height 8ft. 3in. x 6ft. 3in. (2m. 52cm. x 1m. 91cm.)
