A POLYCHROME AND GILT-ALABASTER RELIEF
NOTTINGHAM, LATE 15TH CENTURY
Depicting the Assumption and Coronation of the Virgin, the Virgin standing frontally in gown and mantle, bare-headed within a central mandorla borne up by angels, with St. Thomas kneeling lower left grasping her belt, as she is crowned by the uppermost angels (slight traces of polychromy, upper corners replaced, cracks, losses)-16in. (42cm.) x 9¾in. (25cm.), mounted with iron pins on velvet-covered board
