Lot Essay

Born in Bologna, Corsini (1688-1772) worked there, as well as in Rome (on the Trevi Fountain, 1735). This oval relief is attributed to him by comparison with the signed relief of the Worship of the Golden Calf in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London. Cf. J. Pope-Hennessy, Catalogue of Italian Sculpture in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, 1964, Vol II, cat. no. 705, p. 660 and Vol III, pl. no 695, p. 409.
