One of the earlier naval encounters between the United States and Britain during the War of 1812, the battle between the "President" and "Little Belt" was a decisive American victory. The engagement between the two warships occured on May 16, 1811, with Commodore John Rogers and Captain Charles Ludlow at the helm of the "President," and Captain Arthur Batt Bingham in command of the defeated "Little Belt."
