Lot Essay

It is difficult to attribute this piece to a particular factory, as Chinese moulded hexagonal teapots were produced by many factories. The shape and decoration are similar to a creamware teapot (Reilly, Wedgwood, Vol. I, no. 145) and the spout and handle to a creamware teapot moulded with Chinese flowers (op. cit., fig. 146).

For other examples of this shape and decoration but with different borders on the cover and shoulder see Grigsby, Weldon Collection, no. 94a and b and Sandon, Coffee Pots and Teapots, pl. 27 for two examples in The Harriet Carlton Goldweitz Collection.
