Lot Essay

Cf. Towner, Creamware, pp. 23, 40, plate 36A and Crfeam Coloured Earthenware, plate 66A for teapots of similar shape also decorated with prints from William Greatbatch's Prodigal Son series.

The Biblical story of The Prodigal son inspires a series of prints by Greatbatch, posing the errant youth in contemporary (18th century) settings.
