Lot Essay

Pierre-Philippe Thormire (1757-1843) was responsible for sculpture anddecorative objects executed in ormolu and bronze in the neo-classic taste during the late 18th and early 19th century. The present model, often mistakenly attributed to Jean-Baptista Pigalle, was widely copied at the time in a variety of sizes and materials.
