Lot Essay

Marlier lists three other versions of the present painting, none of which are signed, and suggest that they might all be from the workshop of Pieter Brueghel, possibly even by Martin van Cleve (G. Marilier, Pierre Brueghel le Jeune, 1969, pp. 392-3, one of the versions illustrated)
