The circular tapering body mounted with bacchic mask handles and lions masks with strapwork, with painted cypher and coronet of the Dukes of Leinster- 11in.(28cm.) high

Lot Essay

The cypher is possibly that of either William Robert Fitzgerald, 3rd Duke of Leinster (1748-1804) or Augustus Frederick FitzGerald, 4th Duke of Leinster (d. 1874).

A pair of identical buckets bearing this same cypher were sold in these Rooms, 12 October 1991, lot 3. A similar bucket dated 1800 was sold in these Rooms, 29 October 1983, lot 22.
