Lot Essay

The present model is one of several models by Raoul Larche of "La Loie" which were wired as table lamps. Known for her dramatic use of lighting and swirling scarves in her stage performances, Loie Fuller (1862-1928) was a great inspiration to artists in all media at the turn of the century.

cf. A. Duncan, Art Nouveau and Art Deco Lighting, New York, 1978, pp. 81, 112-113, figd. 55-57 for a further discussion of Larche's work in lighting, specifically his Loie Fuller lamps which were also marketed in a larger size and with two lights instead of one.
