Lot Essay

The subject of the drawing can be interpreted as a salvation of the soul through the Sacrament of the Eucharist, represented by the ciborium, which triumphs over Death. Studies of skeletons by Cigoli are in the Uffizi, G.G. Bertelà and A. Petrioli Tofani, Feste a Apparati Medicei da Cosimo I a Cosimo II, Florence, 1969, no. 83, pl. 38
