Lot Essay

The inscription probably refers to the chapel dedicated to Saint Tolomei in San Giorgio, Ferrara decorated by Ferrari around 1690. Nothing of his work in the chapel survives except for the altarpiece. The left-hand side of the present drawing formely in the Kaufman Collection, London had an inscription on the verso 'F. Ferraro Capella di Collegio Tolomei'. Although Ferrari is unknown as a draughtsman there seems no reason to doubt the inscription on both this and the Kaufman drawing
