The table, with altar tripod base, has an intricately inlaid top, whose richly mottled and 'oystered' veneer creates a 'Grecian' flowered and ribbon-banded medallion. The cabinet-maker S. Jamar (d. 1826) of Soho, specialised in the manufacture of fine ormolu-mounted 'Cabinet Furniture' in the French manner, and his interest in specialist veneer-cutting machines is discussed in The Dictionary of English Furniture Makers, Leeds, 1986, p. 478
