Lot Essay

The Wyoming Valley in Pennsylvania was the site of many conflicts between the early settlers and the Indians. Perhaps the most famous of these battles was that which took place in 1778, and which is depicted here. The Colonials were massacred to such an extent that all the remaining settlers of the valley fled for their lives. A monument has been erected to mark the site of one of the most dreadful massacres in the history of Pennsylvania.
