Lot Essay

Upon his immigration to Boston from Paris in 1910, Lachaise began work on a series of small nudes inspired by his muse, Isabel Nagle Lachaise. While the dimensions of these stauettes were limited due to lack of space, the abundant vitality and sensuality are indicative of their importance to the artist's exploration of the female nude.
