Lot Essay

The arrangement of ebony-stringed drawers around a shallow arched kneehole relates to a type of 'handsome five drawer Dressing table' being supplied by Gillows circa 1810. A similar type with concave centre was supplied to Parlington Hall, Yorkshire, in 1811 (see: C. Gilbert, Furniture at Temple Newsam House and Lotherton Hall, London, 1978, vol. II., p. 501, no. 500)
