Edwin H. Blashfield (1848-1936) was among the first sixteen students to attend MIT when it opened in 1865. In Paris he studied under Gerome, Chapu and Bonnat. He and other muralists decorated the Manufacturers Building and Liberal Arts Building at the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago in 1893.
