Of oblong form, the base, sides and hinged cover chased with panels of engine-turning bordered by foliate scrolls and anthemion, the cover chased with a border of trailing foliage enclosing an enamelled scene of Dresden, marked on interior with prestige marks--3½in.(9cm.) long

Lot Essay

The enamelist B., whose work is of the highest quality,produced outstanding views of a number of Northern European cities including a box similar to the present example set with a scene of Elsinore Castle sold in these Rooms, April 18, 1991, lot 165. A gold vbox with a scene of Lotte and his daughters, also signed B., was sold by Christie's, Geneva, November 11, 1986, lot 401.
