Cartouche-shaped, the deep panelled bombe sides chased with rocaille and scrolls enclosing asymmetrical cartouches enclosing basketweave, the base hinged and opening to reveal a small mirrored compartment, the hinged cover chased with a scene of Mercury and a putto amid clouds and foliate scrolls on a basketweave ground, the interior painted with a capriccio of an amorous couple in a lakeside setting, apparently unmarked, the interior with museum accession number 40.44a --2¼in.(5.8cm.) high in fitted leather case
