Of lobed circular form, the panels repousse and chased with single flowers, centering two bands of trailing foliage and bellflowers, enclosing a calyx of flower petals, engraved on one side with a crown above CR and, on the other, a Royal Ducal coronet above the initial F, struck on rims with London hallmarks for 1766 and maker's mark of Sebastian & James Crespell, showing re-use of earlier dishes --15 1/8in.(38.5cm.) diameter

Lot Essay

A pair of identical dishes by William Frisbee, 1809, was sold by Christie's, London, May 20, 1987, lot 302.

The initials and crown are those of Queen Charlotte, Consort of King George III. The other initial and Royal Ducal corobnet are those of Frederick, Duke of York, second son of George III and Queen Charlotte.
